Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide

Description

Helpline and support for people who has been bereaved by suicide.

Bereavement by suicide shares characteristics with other bereavements and it is also different – it can bring an intensity and range of emotions and physical reactions which may be unfamiliar, frightening and uncontrollable.

We are all different. You may have some, all or none of the emotional or physical feelings described.  Do not worry that you are not reacting in the “right way” – there is no right or wrong way and we all respond differently to a death by suicide.

Helpline

Your call will be answered by one of our volunteers, the majority of whom have been bereaved by suicide themselves. They will listen to you and answer any questions you may have. If you would like them to, they will post a copy of our support booklet and other information to you.

It can take courage to make that first call – if you find that you hang up, you are welcome to call again.  Many people find that they are initially not sure what they would talk about – but after a few minutes they find they are talking freely about what is on their mind.

E-mail support

We provide an email support service for people who prefer to share their experiences and feelings through writing rather than talking.

Your email will be read and responded to by one of our volunteers, who has been bereaved by suicide themselves. They can offer support, answer questions and provide details of other support you may wish to explore.

Please be aware that you may not receive a response immediately however emails are checked daily.

We encourage self help, we do not provide counselling – if you are interested in counselling, you could talk with your GP or have a look at other organisations.

LGBTQ support

If you are, or the person who died was, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning, and you would like to talk about this or connect with people who understand, we offer an email support service.

Your mail will be read and responded to by one of our volunteers, who has been bereaved by suicide and who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. They can offer support, answer questions and provide details of other help you may wish to explore.

You can email suzziholden@yahoo.co.uk or jackiecarter2706@yahoo.co.uk
